I would like to investigate compositional ‘play’ in the context of abstraction. Through the ideas of distribution of space and the surface treatment. I am attempting to challenge/ question my previous heavy paint application and impasto surfaces in order to develop a different visual language for my own practice. At the same time, I am trying to define and refine my methodology through the observations and studies of the visual elements. This method of the phrasing of ‘elements’ does not take place overnight; it happens through a process of studies, just like learning a new language. In learning a new language, one needs to learn the new vocabulary of words and its rules, equivalent to grammar; as for the paintings, I need to learn how to appropriate the visual elements, over historic integration, influences, and how it could possibly be due to certain social conventions at the prevailing time.
