Welcome to the Ngee Ann Kongsi Library

The library was started in 1984 with 700 books from our founder, Brother Joseph McNally's personal collection. Today the Ngee Ann Kongsi Library is a specialist art library in Singapore, with a unique collection focusing on the research and artistic practices in the region and globally. The current collection consists of 130,000 physical books; the Library aims to grow its physical collection to 250,000 supported by an e-resourcing strategy. With a robust e-preferred strategy for collection development, the e-collection over 1 million e-books accessed through Perlego Digital Library, Routledge, SpringerLink, and Scribd databases. Over the recent years, the Library has acquired research databases, Ebscohost, JSTOR, Project Muse, which carries more than 100,000 e-journals. To further support the increasing research needs of the LASALLE community, additional specialised programme specific databases have acquired -- Drama Online (Performing Arts), WGSN(Fashion), Bloomsbury (Design) and Kanopy Film Database (Animation and Film). The Library also carries a physical collection of over 10,000 audiovisual resources, mainly film DVDs.

The Library exists to support the educational philosophy of the LASALLE College of the Arts, which is committed to education in the visual arts, performance arts and research in the arts. The Library acquires, organises and makes available materials in the areas of the arts. This purpose is accomplished by providing carefully selected materials and flexible, diverse services to aid all levels of students and faculty and staff in their pursuit of education, research, and information in the arts.

The Library, in its overall goal, has included all students' stimulation to develop the skills needed to acquire and apply knowledge throughout their lives. It is an interactive space, supporting staff and student exhibitions, book launches, talks and various other activities, nurturing creativity. Encouraging dialogues amongst artists, students and educators by providing the platform and space for such interactions to enrich the learning experience further at LASALLE.
