Light being : conditions of being light

This thesis traces the research development of the final exhibited work, titled Lightness of Being. In the initial stages of inquiry, the investigation focuses on how to create a state of sensuous immersion of fictive discourse with others, the world and ourselves by looking into the notions of seduction, the phenomenology of language, and inter-dimensional aspects of time, space and text. The use of fragmented letters or language, through layering and movement of text, provides a phenomenological way to organize and make meanings of our experiences; combined with the use of light sources, the work aims to create a “holding” space for immersion and provides a transcendental interpretation from linear to non-linear time. The thesis documents how the ideas and forms take shape, referencing from theoretical, historical and cultural perspectives that anchor the research, and my reflection of the progression of the study to the culmination of the final exhibited work.
