This dissertation is an attempt to unfold the complexities of ‘phenomenal terms’ generalized by society as simplistic. Contextual references, particularly, pertaining to Singapore’s envisioned ‘Status of Renaissance’ will be analyzed alongside a theoretical assistance namely Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel’s dialectic – the thesis, antithesis and synthesis. Thus, Hegel’s dialectic will be paralleled to the structure of the LASALLE College of the Arts Master’s (MA) Programme where my artistic practices will be critically tested and reflected. This dissertation not only aspire to seek moments or to recognize signs of synthesis in its contextual analysis, it also aims to legitimize the ‘situational experiments’ of my artistic practice as prospective models suspended for public scrutiny. Priority of my intent in this dissertation is not to give a definitive portrayal on subjectivity but to confront its antinomies, embrace its conflicts and eventually present these ambivalences for better judgment.
