To modulate is to regulate, adjust or adapt to a desired degree. For an appropriate analogy, modulating a form in a painting would be akin to tweaking a knob on a synthesizer to vary or distort the pitch and intensity of a note. This thesis enables the understanding of how paintings can be representational without being illustrative or descriptive.
