닦다 (Dak-da): chasing lightness

My project delves into the interconnection of past, present, and future through repetitive acts of cleaning gestures by filling and emptying. Within the layers of time lie a tapestry of dots, lines, and faces, representing moments both glorious and poignant. These moments imprint various marks – scars, dents, stains, or scratches – upon the canvas of existence. Through my paintings, I aim to visualise these imprints, wrapping up my life's journey while preparing for the next phase as a professional artist. Cleaning, in my view, transcends mere erasure of the unpleasant; it embodies a process of polishing and nurturing the past, fostering healing and growth. The layers of colours and textures within my artworks symbolise the passage of time and the inevitability of ageing. With each iteration of cleaning, boundaries blur – between lines and shapes, as well as between myself and my surroundings. Through consistent acts of painting like this, the images merge, echoing the unity found within the paintings themselves. The patina that I want to have in my paintings evokes a sense of lightness, a quality I seek to encounter throughout my journey of cleaning. I recognize this endeavour as perpetual, akin to the act of breathing that sustains life.To me, whether I'm cleaning myself or my surroundings, it serves as evidence of my harmonious coexistence with others or nature. I anticipate the moments of joyful encounters with a sense of lightness, waiting for them to appear every now and again.
