Embodied vitality

This exegesis discusses conceptual and studio processes on the subject of ‘Embodied Vitality’. The paper starts by unpacking the term inner space, and how abstraction can depict the formless and visceral. Following this, points of connection are drawn between key references that inform my painting practice, such as philosophical theories on embodied cognition and aesthetics, the space between the senses, and the body as the source of creation. The work embodies the question: can an artwork feel like a body that is alive? Through this proposition, I am exploring how a visual language can emanate a sense of vitality, and invite a consideration of the often overlooked layers of the internal body.
