This is a recuperating journey through assemblage of personal old and current videos, old photographs and a remembered song, The Olive Tree en route for the composition of a short film. It revolves on my revisit to my family farmhouse in Sarawak after my marriage and residence in Singapore. I found that the farmhouse had been demolished; poignancy sets in. The place and my home country held important memories and discovering changes to such old places, runs parallel with a time when I personally experience a flux of recent changes in my life.Just like the nature of memories (fractured and fragmented), my approach to the authoring of a film is fluid and organic, frequently relying on intuition. Film medium is not arbitrary, but rather for its narrative form, as filmic moments evoke the reminiscence of my personal memory, collective familial forgetting and trials of cultural loss.
